Overview
Description: Garland is a chain of flowers, leaves, beads, or other material that is worn or hung as a decoration. Garlands have long been associated with religious rituals and traditions from ancient civilizations including Ancient Rome, Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt, parts of Europe, and India. During this project, you will transform cardboard scraps into a strand of garland. As you create your garland strand, you will explore examples of garland from around the world, measure the perimeter of rectangles, calculate the area of rectangles, and use a laser cutter. This project includes two rectangles: Measuring Rectangles and Make a Garland Strand. This project takes approximately two hours to complete.
Standards: This project aligns to Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for third grade through fourth grade, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for fourth grade, and Florida CPALMS Standards for third grade.
