Introduction to Additive Manufacturing
Description: This project introduces students to additive manufacturing and covers the history of additive manufacturing technology as well as the types, applications, and materials used in additive manufacturing. This project also discusses the ethical and legal ramifications of additive manufacturing, including controversies over 3D printed weapons, 3D printed artificial organs, and intellectual property. Students will learn about manufacturing as a career path and use computer-aided design to produce a 3D printed item. This project takes approximately 7 hours to complete.
Distance Learning: This project includes an in-person learning and distance learning option. The in-person learning option requires a 3D printer to complete.
Standards: This project aligns to Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts, Next Generation Science Standards, International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, and Florida CPALMS Standards for ninth grade through twelfth grade.
